his is a course for anyone who wants a better understanding of the skills necessary to mentor others. It is ideal for those who wish to undertake effective mentoring in a range of situations, such as an organisation, the voluntary sector, teachers, community groups, parents etc.
Areas that are explored include:
- the role and the benefits of an effective mentor
- potential barriers and how to overcome them
- skills such as listening, questioning, feedback and building trust
- mentoring models and processes
- planning mentoring sessions
- goal setting
- record keeping
- reflective practice
Two written assessments that takes approximately 3-6 months to complete, depending on other commitments
1 – an essay style piece describing the role of a mentor
2 – a portfolio of 3 hours of mentoring practise
